New Diet

Are you looking for a diet that is much better than Weight Watchers, and more convenient than Jenny Craig? Well look no further. If you are serious about improving your health through weight loss, you should check out the latest from "The Fat Loss Guru." Not only will it help you lose weight, but it will also help you look and feel better. In addition, it is supposed to help with chronic health issues, such as diabetes, adrenal fatigue and even hormonal problems. Sounds good right?

Maintaining an ideal weight is a common struggle for most Americans. I was such a skinny kid, that I never thought I would ever have to think about dieting. But when we get older, our metabolism naturally slows down, and it's very easy to pack on a few extra pounds now and then.

I really like exercising. Things like swimming, taking Cameron for rides on the bicycle, and running are all things I enjoy. But, it is not always easy to find the time to do all of this when my first priority is my family (and then there is always mowing the grass - but I guess that counts as exercise too!)

My only advice for anyone out there that is struggling with weight issues, is to find an activity that they enjoy doing. At first, walking is a great way to get in shape. Then, you might feel more comfortable doing a little bit more rigorous activities. Keep in mind, that before you start any type of diet or exercise regimen, you should first check with your doctor to see what he or she recommends. Overall, when you exercise, you feel better, which often leads to looking better. Then, you're more likely to stick with your healthy new lifestyle. Plus, you just might also motivate others to get healthy!

A Look at the Top College Football Games for Week 1

There are some pretty good games lined up for the first weekend of college football. I will review two games today.

Alabama vs Clemson (at Atlanta)

Alabama is coming off a mediocre first year for Nick Saban. Expectations are high in Tuscaloosa. Clemson has too much on offense for the Tide. I like Clemson 28-17.

Illinois vs. Missouri (at St. Louis)

Both teams had remarkable years in 2007. Illinois bounced back and played in the Rose Bowl, while Missouri went to the Cotton Bowl. Missouri and their quarterback Chase Daniel will be too much for the Illini. I like Missouri 35-24.

Christmas Shopping?

I know that it is not even September yet, but before you know it, it will be time to get serious about Christmas shopping. I actually don't mind it one bit. In fact, I kind of enjoy shopping. I know, I am a guy, and guys traditionally do not like shopping. But, who does not enjoy getting great deals on stuff? My favorite day to shop is "Black Friday", also known as the day after Thanksgiving. I get up really early in the morning, with a plan of action in place.

This is all because I use a great website that gives me the advantage of getting pdf and zip files of all my favorite stores before the average thanksgiving flyer. That is what makes the day so great! I can get out of the house and know exactly where the best deals are located. For example, I know that I will be getting my parents a laser printer from Office Depot. They want something that copies, scans, etc. Then, I know I am going to get my in-laws a new glider swing for their patio. I will check the Home Depot ads from the website long before they are available in the newspapers. I'm sure that my wife will also think of all kinds of new toys that we should buy Cameron at Toys R Us. There are many more people to shop for, but I'll know exactly where to find the best deals! The really cool thing about this site is that they will even send me email alerts to let me know when the new black friday ads are posted.

When you think about it, taking a few minutes to explore the ads online will end up saving me tons of time and money! I know that most guys are not big on shopping, but when it comes to finding great deals on certain items, I love it!

Yankees and Red Sox meet for last time in Old Yankee Stadium

Tomorrow, the Yankees and Red Sox will start the final 3 games series played at Old Yankee Stadium. (Unless they meet in the playoffs) Until recently, for Red Sox fans, Yankee Stadium has been a curse for 70 years. As a Red Sox fan, I am glad to see the final series played there. But it is a little sad to see a historic stadium go. A co-worker of mine is a huge Yankees fan and grew up in New York. She is going to the game with her family on Thursday and promised to bring me back a program of the final game.

"Redeem Team" brings home the Gold!

The USA Basketball team defeated Spain in the gold medal game and took back the gold medal for the USA! The team performed well and there only challenge came against Spain where they lead by 4 points with 2 minutes left in the game. I am glad to say that the USA is on top of the basketball world again. We should never lose that position!

Need to Fix Your Car?

I have the worst luck when it comes to parking lots. I recently had to get my bumper replaced on my one week old Corolla. But thankfully, I found an excellent auto body shop to get it looking like new. They were great to deal with, and their prices were very reasonable.

Usain "Lightning" Bolt

Wow, can this guy run? I never thought I would see Michael Johnson's 200 meters World Record of 19.32 beaten. Last night, I did. "I saw I could get the world record in the 200, so I said, 'I'm going to leave everything on the track,'" Bolt said. Then he went out and did it. Bolt broke the world record with a time of 19.30. His run was unbelievable and left all his competitors in the dust.

College Football in 8 Days!

It's hard to believe that the college football season is about to start again. It seemed only a couple of months ago I was sitting in Superdome in New Orleans cheering on my LSU Tigers to a victory over Ohio State in the BCS Championship Game. For me, nothing compares to college football and the excitement of the start of the season. Geaux Tigers!!!

Nastia Liuken - What a Gymnast!

My wife and I have been so impressed by the US gymnasts this year. Nastia Liuken winning the All-Around Women's Gold had to be the best moment in the entire competition. Her poise and composure on what must have been the most intense night of her life, prove that she deserved to take home the most coveted prize in all of gymnastics - the All-Around gold medal.

Michael Phelps greatest Olympian of all time? No

Last night, Bob Costas mentioned that Michael Phelps may now be considered the greatest Olympian of all time. I don't agree with this. In my opinion, Jesse Owens was the greatest Olympian of all time. He won four gold medals at the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin as Hitler and the Nazi propaganda were promoting ethnic Africans as inferior. To win four gold medals in Berlin during Hitler's rise to power was the biggest achievement for an athlete and also the biggest message he could have sent the Germans.

James Blake upsets Federer at Olympics

One of my favorite tennis players, James Blake, put the smack down on Roger Federer in 2 sets 6-4, 7-6 (2) in Beijing at the Olympics. It was Blake's first victory over Federer. Federer has had an off year getting beat by Blake and his No. 1 ranking to Rafael Nadal. Go James Blake!

Chinese Women's (Little Girls) Gymnastics Win Gold

There has been some controversy over whether the Chinese women's gymnastics team members were really 16 years old, as required by Olympic rules. Most of the girls look 12 years old on the team. It was also interesting to hear the announcers last night say that the Chinese government takes these girls as early as 3 years old and puts them in a formal training program away from their families. In some cases, the girls are only allowed to see there parents once a year. This is really sad and in a way, you have to feel glad for them that they accomplished the goal of winning Gold.

Vacation Destination

With all of this Texas heat, we could definitely use a vacation. For Short Breaks Isle of Wight is the perfect spot! The Isle of Wight is situated on the South Coast of England. At Ventonor Park, which is one of the prettiest areas on the Island, you can take beautiful walks near the amazing Botanical Gardens. You can choose to stay at either a great hotel, or at a fabulous bed and breakfast. The best thing about the Isle of Wight is that it offers something for everyone. It boasts record sunshine levels, sandy beaches, and traditional English countryside! Maybe if I close my eyes while I'm mowing the grass in the 100 degree heat this weekend, I can pretend I'm there instead...

Michael Phelps dominating the Cube in Beijing

I am trully amazed at how much better Michael Phelps is compared to his competitors. He looks like a dolphin swimming in the pool. Last night, he took home his 10th and 11th career Gold Medal and is looking for more. He is an amazing athlete and one of the greatest of our times.

Great Surgeons

Have you heard about Drs. Miklos and Moore? They are international leaders in laparoscopic and minimally invasive bladder and vagina surgery. With laparoscopy, or laser surgery, there are naturally less noticeable scars and smaller incisions. This not only helps to decrease the chance of infection, but will also lead to a quicker recovery time. Sometimes, elective surgery can really improve the quality of a person's life, especially after having children. Of course, it is extremely important to carefully review the credentials of the medical professionals you choose to perform your surgery. Dr. Miklos and Dr. Moore are surgeons that want to help improve the quality of life of others.

Will the Dream Team take the Gold?

After disappoints in the past years in international compettition, will the NBA Dream Team take the gold medal in Bejing. I certainly hope so. The roster looks as good as we have put together since the original Dream Team in 1992. I wouldn't be surprise if the team loses a game, but I think Team USA takes gold.

Sports Illustrated's Preseason Top 20- College Football

I can't wait until the start of college football season. SI recently released their top 20.

6Oklahoma
7Auburn
8Texas Tech

I take issue with Texas Tech ranked at #8. Are you kidding me? I also think West Virginia at #14 is underranked. Interesting pick of Pittsburgh at #19.....I think Rutgers is a better team.

Packers sucking up to Favre

Brett Favre, who only a few weeks ago, was speaking to the hated rival Minnesota Vikings about playing for them in 2008 was offerred a "marketing deal" by Green Bay. The potential agreement, worth a reported $20 million over 10 years would keep him off the field and I guess finally shut up the big baby.

Favre has lost all respect from me.

I thought AJ Hawk of the Green Bay Packers summed it up best. Packers linebacker A.J. Hawk chuckled at the thought of being paid $20 million not to play. "You could hand me a billion dollars, and I'm still going to be on the field," Hawk said. "It doesn't matter to me. But everyone has different situations, has different views on money. Money is not more important than football to me right now."
